About The Position

Bristol Hospice is seeking compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with a passion for patient and family care. As a CNA, you will be an integral part of the Interdisciplinary Group Team, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Your role will involve providing essential personal care and comfort to patients, contributing to Bristol Hospice's mission of delivering high-quality, family-centered hospice services with respect and dignity.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (applicable for all States).
  • Must have completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
  • Licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with organization/state requirements and is in good working order.
  • Willingness to submit to a criminal background check prior to hire and annually thereafter.
  • Current CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience in community health/hospice or medical/surgical environments.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • An understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
  • Ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Understanding of plan of care documentation.
  • Flexibility in work hours to ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Ability to empathize with the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and impaired.
  • Comfortable addressing issues of death/dying.
  • Calm demeanor when entering the patient's home.

Responsibilities

  • Perform personal care needs, attending to patient requests promptly and reporting any inability to perform tasks to the Case Manager.
  • Provide positive communication, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Ensure patient safety by using equipment correctly.
  • Assist with patient hygiene, including baths, back rubs, oral care, and changing linens.
  • Help patients dress and undress as assigned.
  • Assist with meal preparation, including shopping, and feeding patients.
  • Take and record vital signs as ordered.
  • Provide skin care to prevent breakdown.
  • Assess and report patient condition changes to the Case Manager, noting interpersonal dynamics within the household.
  • Assist with ambulation, exercise, range of motion, and transfers/positioning as directed.
  • Provide reminders for self-administered medications as permitted by state regulations.
  • Offer and assist with bedpan and urinal use.
  • Perform light laundry duties if necessary.
  • Conduct range of motion and simple procedures as ordered.
  • Provide respite for patient's family/caregiver when on-site.
  • Maintain patient's living area cleanliness and order.
  • Adhere to documentation procedures and professional conduct standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Respect patient and family/caregiver environment and personal needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
