Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Night Shift, General Surgery
About The Position
Shady Grove Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant for its General Surgery Department. The role involves performing various service duties and routine technical tasks, such as vital signs and activities of daily living, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment, and consideration of the special needs and behaviors of specific patient populations is required. The position also requires participation in department and organizational education programs, meetings, committees, and professional initiatives, with a commitment to personal and professional development to adapt effectively to ongoing change. The CNA is expected to present a positive and professional image, follow the care plan as delegated by the Registered Nurse, receive report from the Registered Nurse, and ensure a culture of safety. This includes identifying necessary resources for safe patient care delivery, appropriately utilizing resources, and identifying and reporting malfunctioning/expired equipment and supplies. The CNA is also responsible for ensuring work areas and equipment are cleaned and stored appropriately.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required
- Successful completion of a CNA or first year Nursing School Program and successful completion of the CNA exam required
- Maryland CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) License required
- Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant by the State of Maryland and be on the State of Maryland Registry
- Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English in order to communicate effectively
- Physical ability to meet job requirements of lifting, bending and turning.

- Experience in acute care clinical setting preferred.
