About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides high-quality, compassionate, and efficient patient care under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing staff. In alignment with Oregon’s updated 2025 CNA certification standards, the CNA performs a comprehensive range of clinical, clerical, and support functions that promote patient health, safety, and dignity. All CNA tasks are carried out under the direction of a Registered Nurse, who provides guidance and oversight to ensure safe and appropriate care delivery. Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, collecting objective data, supporting therapeutic interventions, maintaining accurate documentation, coordinating unit activities, and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized environment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current, valid Oregon CNA certification (per the 2025 unified certification requirements)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, observational, and communication skills required
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively
  • Able to work collaboratively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Strong understanding of cultural sensitivity and developmental stages of care
  • Proficiency in basic computer use and electronic documentation
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail
  • Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and punctuality
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Requires manual dexterity and effective hand-eye coordination
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively in English via reading, writing, and speaking
  • Regular exposure to body fluids and standard precautions required
  • Requires use of personal computers and electronic health records system

Nice To Haves

  • Previous CNA experience in a hospital or acute care setting preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including bathing, grooming, feeding, ambulating, toileting, and repositioning
  • Assist with safe patient transfers and mobility, using assistive devices and safe handling equipment
  • Monitor and document required cases, patient vital signs, pain levels, height, weight, intake/output, and report abnormalities.
  • Document care accurately and in a timely manner in the patient’s medical record
  • Obtain patient specimens and perform point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose, urine screening, occult blood) within scope of training and as directed by the RN/MD.
  • Assist with clinical interventions such as incentive spirometry, warm/cold therapies, bladder scans, and deep breathing exercises as directed by the RN.
  • Apply and remove restraints and sequential compression devices as directed by nursing staff
  • Respond to patient call lights and escalate patient needs outside of CNA scope to licensed nurse
  • Observe and communicate changes in patient condition, behavior, and needs to the RN
  • Provide 1:1 patient observation for safety and fall prevention as needed
  • Reinforce patient education and orientation as directed by the RN.
  • Support communication across the unit by answering phones, transferring calls, relaying messages, and assisting visitors
  • Utilize electronic health records in Epic and other hospital systems to input, retrieve, and verify patient information, run reports, and enter charges
  • Process documentation such as discharge paperwork, transport charts, and scanned/faxed materials
  • Coordinate nurse call system assignments, manage staff phone assignments, and monitor call response status
  • Maintain and manage unit inventory, order supplies, and ensure organized storage and workspaces
  • Assist physicians with EMR tasks and access as requested
  • Perform quality assurance checks on documentation and unit functions as directed by leadership
  • Retrieve and transport blood products, specimens, and documents as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the CNA scope of practice
