About The Position

The Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a clinic setting provides essential support to the patient care team by delivering direct patient care, maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The Nursing Assistant works collaboratively with the healthcare team to optimize patient care and enhance clinic operations. The Nursing assistant maintains a pleasant, courteous and cooperative manner with patients, visitors and Center's personnel.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Active CNA certification in Alabama (Preferred)
  • Must have pleasant personality, good telephone etiquette and public relations skills.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
  • Prior experience in a clinical or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in the above job description.
  • Requires human relations skills to deal effectively with patients/visitors in person or via telephone.
  • Must have the ability to utilize an electronic health record and have knowledge in medical records and insurance billing.
  • Basic ability to operate a multi-line telephone, copier, fax machine and other office equipment.
  • CPR, Active CNA certification in Alabama (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Participates in Care team huddles and pre-visit planning process
  • Greets, registers, and receives all patients, visitors, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Interviews patients to obtain and record all required demographic and screening data as needed and trained.
  • Supports care team by collecting necessary information such as but not limited to pharmacy utilized by patient, email address, other providers seen….etc
  • Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height, etc).
  • Place patients in examination rooms with proper drapes and privacy.
  • Prepare patients for exams, treatments, or procedures as directed by healthcare personnel.
  • Collect specimens such as urine or stool and prepare them for lab analysis.
  • Conducts patient screening questionnaires as trained and records in the medical record.
  • Assist nurses and/or providers with procedures and treatments.
  • Documents properly all phone messages, referrals, letters etc.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage clinic flow as needed.
  • Answer patient inquiries and provide information within the scope of the CNA role.
  • Monitor and report changes in patients’ conditions to nurses or providers.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
  • Ensure patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participates in Care team quality improvement activities including care team performance on required clinical, operational and financial measures.
  • Maintain and organize supplies in the supply room.
  • Keep exam room stocked and organized at all times.
  • Maintain up-to-date CPR Certification and submit a copy of CPR card to credentialing and HR.
  • Participate in the nurse training sessions as required to obtain/maintain certification.
  • Maintains reception area in neat and orderly condition at all times.
  • Answers telephone in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Facilitates timely messages for the care team by accurately recording information in the EHR system and tasking information to the correct individual.
  • May include evenings , weekends and occasional holidays depending on clinic hours
  • Prompt arrival and regular attendance at work.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by immediate supervisor and/or Nursing Manager.
  • Must provide the very best customer satisfaction to patients, visitors, and co-worker at all time in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) policies and procedures.
  • Must successfully complete Privacy Rule compliance training annually or as revisions are made to the policies and procedures.
  • Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by learning to protect FPHC patient’s medical privacy.
  • Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by appropriately maintaining our patient information in compliance with national standards.
  • Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by providing appropriate security of FPHC patient records
  • Must adhere to safety regulations, personnel policies and procedures.
  • Safety and Hazard Communication training update is required annually.
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA and CLIA requirements to assure compliance.
  • Maintain yearly health maintenance records by obtaining TB skin testing and completion of the hepatitis series.
