About The Position

Provide personal aspects of care for patients with the goal of increasing their level of comfort and maintaining personal hygiene. Works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, reporting any significant changes in the patient’s condition. Duties may be adjusted at the discretion of the nurse based on the evaluation of the patient’s needs and the ability of the CNA. The CNA is supervised by the Nurse Manager for personnel and administrative issues. Takes all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certificate from college, technical school or equivalent training program
  • Minimum one year recent experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Current CNA certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds using established lifting procedures.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal aspects of care for patients with the goal of increasing their level of comfort and maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Report any significant changes in the patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse.
  • Take blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations of the patient per plan of care, or under the direction of the nurse.
  • Transfer of patient, e.g., bed to chair, bed to commode, and chair/commode to bed.
  • Assist with ambulation and exercise of patient as ordered and so assigned.
  • Change patient bed linens.
  • Assist with feeding of patient.
  • Follow individualized care plan for each patient.
  • Maintain records for patient charts on all care provided.
  • Must be aware of emotional status of patient/family and demonstrates willingness to understand the emotional problems associated with the illness appropriately and professionally at all times.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Complete assigned duties such as restocking, cleaning, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, families, and other staff.
  • Participate in hospice training as required, to include 15 hours of CEUs/year and competency check per policy.
  • Attend and/or participate in one Memorial Service per year.
  • Take all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice.
  • Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times with others, e.g., co-workers, management, vendors, and customers.
  • Complete all job responsibilities in a thorough and complete manner, utilizing good judgment in all aspects of the job.
  • When unsure of a directed task or any part of job responsibilities, proactively seek the assistance of immediate supervisor.
  • Ensure job responsibilities are met, including attendance requirements and prompt arrival at work.
  • Assist with special projects, as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate for level of practice. (Example may be taught simple wound care).
  • All other job duties as may be assigned.
