About The Position

The Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home-Kearney is seeking full-time and part-time Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) for NOC (night) positions, working from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM. This role involves providing quality care to elderly members, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality, and performing routine nursing duties. CNAs will be responsible for preparing, administering, and documenting oral and topical medications and treatments. All duties are performed under the general supervision of a licensed nurse and must adhere to the Nebraska Medication Aide Act, State of Nebraska Nursing Assistant regulations, and Veteran's Affairs regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Completed a state approved 76-hour nurse aide training course and competency evaluation program
  • Be listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
  • Knowledge of Nebraska Medication Aide Act, medication administration, and adverse medication reactions
  • Knowledge of regulations governing nursing assistants
  • Knowledge of practices and principles of providing basic nursing assistance
  • Knowledge of infection control practices
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
  • Knowledge of abuse and neglect identification and prevention
  • Knowledge of safety principles
  • Knowledge of privacy and dignity principles
  • Skill in providing basic nursing assistance, administering medications
  • Skill in developing positive relationships with others
  • Ability to recognize adverse medication reactions and take appropriate action
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in exact detail
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and push/pull occasionally up to 75 lbs. on a daily basis
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist and neck and frequently twist at the waist and walk or stand up to 90% of the shift

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality care for each member to maintain quality of life
  • Maintain dignity and confidentiality of members
  • Perform routine nursing duties in the general care of elderly members in the Veterans Home
  • Prepare, administer and document oral and topical medications and treatments
  • Provide basic nursing care
  • Administer medications
  • Apply treatments for Veteran's Home members within the scope of the Nebraska Medication Aide Act, State of Nebraska Nursing Assistant regulations, and Veteran's Affairs regulations
  • Recognize adverse medication reactions and take appropriate action
  • Follow oral and written instructions in exact detail
  • Lift, turn and/or reposition members as needed
  • Interact with members and others in a positive manner and be flexible to meet changing demands of the job
