About The Position

This is a certified nursing assistant position in the Long-Term Care Campuses of La Crosse County. Employees work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Nurse Technician. The position is located at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse, WI, and is accessible via public transportation and bike trails. The shift is from 2:30 pm to 11 pm, with shifts scheduled during the week and every other weekend, including a holiday rotation. Wage depends on experience, with a potential of up to $22.39/hr and $24.39/hr on weekends with differential.

Requirements

  • Must be Certified Nursing Assistant at time of hire and listed on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must successfully pass a background check as required by the Wisconsin Caregiver law.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written directions.
  • Ability to conscientiously observe facility rules, regulations and policies.
  • Read and write English.

Nice To Haves

  • Employee must possess a valid driver's license and be approved by the County, if driving facility vehicles in the transportation of residents to program events, medical or dental appointments, etc.
  • C.N.A.'s who have completed an approved medication certification course will pass medication under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Assists residents in all areas of personal hygiene, activities of daily living and care of their room and personal belongings, encouraging the highest practicable level of independence.
  • Assists residents at mealtime including assisting with eating and supervision of residents, following guidelines on individual diet cards before giving each resident their meal.
  • Provides supervision to maintain safety of the residents at all times.
  • Follows directions and performs cares as assigned by the nurse and reports progress with those assignments to the nurse.
  • Documents care provided to residents as directed.
  • Reports changes in resident's condition immediately to nurse for appropriate direction and intervention.
  • Performs simple duties such as temperature, pulse, respiration, weights, and skin treatments such as lotions or creams to closed skin.
  • Participates in defining needs of residents to assist in development of an individualized care plan for each resident.
  • Gathers and documents appropriate data on residents such as specific behaviors and restorative programs.
  • Follows all care plan approaches including using mechanical lifts and those developed by all other disciplines and may include specialized psychiatric services.
  • Works safely and follows safety practices and standards of the facility; responsible for reporting or correcting any existing or potential safety or accident hazard.
  • Maintains residents' rights and confidentiality of resident information; immediately reports all suspected cases of resident abuse to the Supervisor or Administrator.
  • Supports all aspects of person-centered care, respecting and acknowledging individuality and uniqueness of residents.
  • Uses a gait belt and proper body mechanics when involved in lifting, pushing or pulling activities.
  • Maintains a safe, clean environment free of hazards.
  • Assures that dining area floors, tables, chairs and wheelchairs, etc. are cleaned of food and liquids after meals.
  • Escorts individuals or groups to dining room and other facility activities.
  • Takes an active role in living area and team meetings.
  • Safely prepares, administers and records medications ordered by physician (if medication certified).
  • Administers medications as specified in the established facility medication administration policy and procedures, maintaining awareness of actions, dosage, route, and resident condition changes.
  • Carries out recommendations/care plans for restorative care as developed by therapists and nursing staff (if assigned restorative programs).
  • Promotes residents' involvement in the Restorative Activity Program.
  • Assists resident with ambulation for therapeutic purposes.
  • Transfers residents using proper body mechanics and appropriate assistive devices.
