Requirements

  • Valid certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire date.
  • Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Execute duties as assigned and establish and meet timelines for patient care.
  • Answer patient call lights within unit-specific guidelines.
  • Provide basic hygiene including bathing, oral care, and dressing.
  • Assist with toileting, turning, and ambulation.
  • Take patient vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, oxygen level, glucose monitoring).
  • Relay and document patient information including physical and mental status changes, vital signs, meal consumption, liquid intake, glucose results, distances walked, and daily bowel movement and urine amounts.
  • Effectively relay information to the next CNA on shift or the nurse in charge.
  • Participate in bedside reporting.
  • Safely care for multiple patients using appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment with adequate supplies.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and safe manner and remove/tag equipment needing repair.
  • Float to other units as necessary.
  • May have precepting responsibility.
  • Participate in education by attending required inservices and 75% of unit meetings.
  • Demonstrate understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis, and infection control procedures.
  • Greet each person entering the facility.
  • Explain temperature and symptom screening purpose to patients/visitors/vendors.
  • Explain current visitor/patient support partner protocol.
  • Ensure patients/visitors/vendors are screened appropriately.
  • Administer and interpret temperature using a no-touch digital thermometer.
  • Screen persons entering the facility.
  • Ensure all who enter are wearing a mask/face covering and provide one if needed.
  • Confirm patients' destinations and direct them accordingly.
  • Confirm permitted visitors in coordination with Welcome Desk staff.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and entry vestibule.
  • Monitor screening supplies and report needs.
  • Clean returned wheelchairs prior to reuse.
  • Assist with projects and tasks that can be performed at the work station.
