Assists in performing a variety of nursing care services for patients. This role involves receiving patient care assignments from the registered nurse (RN), initiating delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence, and collecting and documenting patient data. The CNA relays information through charting and communication with team members, informs the licensed nurse of any changes in patient condition or needs, and answers patient calls for assistance. Responsibilities include assisting with patient hygiene, mobility, feeding, and making beds, as well as performing tasks such as dressing changes, ostomy care, and catheter care. The role also involves preparing patients for discharge, stocking supplies, assisting with clerical duties, orienting new patients, and operating equipment. The CNA must work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, and may perform point-of-care testing.
