Requirements

  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Iowa required.
  • Completion of 75 hour C.N.A. course preferred.
  • Prefer high school diploma or GED.
  • Prior related work experience preferred.
  • Attends 12 hours of in-service training yearly.
  • CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care for Long-Term Care residents that follows the Care Plan.
  • Assists each resident to achieve and maintain the highest level of health and physical condition.
  • Communicates effectively with residents, families, and coworkers to protect and promote each resident’s dignity, individuality and rights.
  • Assesses patient’s daily needs and treatments, including obtaining and recording vital signs, height, weight, and assessing need for assistance with or independence in dressing, bathing, eating, and ambulation, considering patient's choice, privacy, dignity, and independence.
  • Provides input in the care planning process as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provides or assists the patient with daily needs and treatments in accordance with established policy and procedure, including assisting with bathing and dressing needs, shaving, oral hygiene, bed making, transferring, repositioning, toileting, serving and collecting food trays, encouraging/assisting with feeding, answering call lights, ensuring a clean environment, transporting patients, assisting with ambulation, and orienting/reorienting patients to the facility environment to ensure patient safety.
  • Performs or assists patients in performing specific medical care activities in accordance with established policy and procedure, including assisting with restorative exercises, collecting specimens, administering enemas, bowel and bladder training, assessing and documenting completed cares, intake and output, baths, dietary intake/calorie counts on flow sheets, providing immediate feedback to nursing staff on patient status or changes, and pain management.
  • Performs safety and infection control procedures to ensure a safe, clean environment for patients and staff, including understanding and following established policy and procedures related to fire, tornado, evacuation, disaster plan, universal precautions, infection control procedures, and hazardous and chemical communication program.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the strategic and operational plans of the facility and actively supports these on a daily basis and all facility functions.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
