About The Position

Assists nursing personnel in provision of basic care for residents and necessary unit tasks and functions in compliance with Pelican Care Centers' policies, procedures, applicable healthcare standards, and the Louisiana Department of Health. This role involves promoting the organization's mission, vision, and values by providing basic nursing care that addresses both psychosocial and physical needs, meeting communication needs, and demonstrating initiative and responsibility. The Certified Nursing Assistant will assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, performing age-specific care, and communicating any observed changes in patient status to the RN. They will maintain awareness of the needs of pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations, assist with feeding and fluid balance, explain care to patients and families, and answer questions within their scope of practice. The role also includes performing treatments and services within the scope of practice, communicating effectively with the team, coordinating with other departments for an interdisciplinary approach, and assisting physicians with procedures. The CNA must demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stress, respond to emergencies, and treat patients and families with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality. They will maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and other departments, meet documentation standards, and operate equipment safely. The CNA will coordinate and supervise patient care under the direct supervision of an RN, demonstrate knowledge of disease entities, and ensure medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments.

Requirements

  • Successfully complete a state-approved nurses' aide-training program.
  • Must have current certification and registration with the Louisiana Department of Health.
  • Must be able to safely and successfully perform job-related functions, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care to patients within Pelican Care Centers' scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.
  • Provide general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the Nursing Assistant's scope of practice.
  • Meet the communication needs of patients.
  • Demonstrate performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a Nursing Assistant.
  • Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Perform basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patients' age.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate to the RN with any observed changes in patient status and responses.
  • Maintain awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric, and general patient population.
  • Demonstrate ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with techniques appropriate for patient's age and physical condition.
  • Provide explanation to patients and family prior to administering care to patients; answers questions within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consult other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  • Provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.
  • Demonstrate an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Respond to patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Interact professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift.
  • Manage and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinate and supervises patient care under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of disease entities.
  • Ensure that medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
