About The Position

A CNA performs duties related to patient care and comfort under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. This role involves providing basic care, managing resources effectively, maintaining accurate documentation, fostering positive interpersonal relationships, responding promptly to patient needs, and ensuring a neat and orderly work environment. Attendance at mandatory CPR classes and unit staff meetings is required. The CNA participates in quality improvement initiatives and keeps the RN and LVN informed of patient status changes. They must be adaptable, precise, and capable of caring for geriatric and pediatric patients, acting as a patient advocate, and supporting safety standards. The role operates within the limits of the state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.

Requirements

  • RN and LVN students after successful completion of the first semester of clinical training.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • CNA license in the State of California.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply ethical and legal principles to practice.
  • Current knowledge of Standard Precautions in dealing with potential exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Functions within limits of state Nurse Practice Act, hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic care as directed to include bathing, feeding, assistance with feedings, assistance with activities and hygiene.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in managing resources, following policies and procedures, utilizing equipment in a safe manner. Actively contributes to cost controls by managing time, resources and supplies effectively.
  • Maintains accurate documentation as appropriate including graphic and I&O sheets.
  • Maintains positive and caring interpersonal relationships with patient, families, and fellow employees.
  • Answers call lights and responds to patient requests promptly. Demonstrates competence in taking vital signs, measuring I&O, etc.
  • Ensures that utility room, kitchen, pantries, supply rooms and nurses lounge are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Attendance at CPR Class and orientation are mandatory. Attends 75%, a minimum of six, unit staff meetings, and in-services.
  • Participates in QC/QI issues as required.
  • Keeps RN and LVN informed of changes in patients’ conditions or patients’ requests. Completes assignments given by team leader, cleaning, checking department equipment, etc.
