About The Position

Brooks Rehabilitation is a leading nonprofit rehabilitation system in Florida, recognized nationally for its commitment to advancing rehabilitation science through innovative research, education, and technology. They offer a comprehensive system of care including inpatient and outpatient services, skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care. This position is located at University Crossing and will provide direct or indirect patient care under the supervision of a nurse to brain and spinal cord injured patients in their skilled nursing facility.

Requirements

  • License from the State of Florida.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Hands-on BLS Card.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts assignment, direction, and delegation of tasks from the nurse(s) based on patient age, diagnosis, developmental needs, and plan of care
  • Answers patient call lights.
  • Provides direct ADL care and assistance, including bathing, showering, dressing, feeding for patients who are very dependent; assists those who are partially independent.
  • Toilets patients or provides bedpan-urinal for elimination; cleans patients after each episode of incontinence.
  • Serves patient trays, feeds patients who are very dependent; assists those who are partially independent by setting up the tray.
  • Monitors patient for choking/aspiration.
  • Provides oral hygiene and grooming to dependent patients. Assists those who are partially independent.
  • Turns and reposes patients.
  • Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.
  • Assists with washing patient's personal clothing, as needed.
  • Takes vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure), reports abnormalities to the nurse.
  • Empties catheter bags; reports intake and output to the nurse.
  • Provides condom catheter care.
  • Obtains specimens for laboratory tests.
  • Performs bladder scans.
  • Interacts with patients and families; provides emotional support for same.
  • Weighs patients.
  • Transports patient to various therapies and other departments as required, transports or retrieves equipment, specimens, and other items as required, escorts patients to various doctor appointments.
  • Records patient care as required (vital signs, I/O, weight, other).
  • Cleans and tidies patient rooms, patient bathrooms, unit kitchen and refrigerator, utility rooms, and linen closet (removes dirty linen, trays, clothing; straightens patient personal belongings), straightens dayrooms, cleans other equipment or areas, as required.
  • Monitors (watches) patients for safety (to prevent falls/injuries/wandering).
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures specific to patient rights.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment; identifies and reports hazards.
  • Assures patients, guest, clients, and residents’ safety.
  • Meets all mandatory in-service requirements.
  • Adheres to policies/procedures specific to universal precautions when delivering patient care.
  • Complies with attendance policy.
  • Dresses in compliance with policy.
  • Adheres to policy for conduct.
  • Consistently behaves in a courteous manner to all.
  • Communicates and interacts appropriately with co-workers.
  • Completes annual equipment and skills competency checklists.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as needed.
  • Exhibits excellent service to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
