About The Position

This position is for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a Surgical Inpatient unit (Med 1) at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, IL. The role involves working 36 hours per week on the night shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) with weekend and holiday rotation. The CNA will be responsible for managing and reporting on various patient care tasks and equipment, ensuring a clean and well-supplied environment, and potentially floating to different units. The role also includes training new partners and performing specific procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Requirements

  • Completion of a CNA program.
  • Current CNA certificate in applicable state.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Documents care provided according to standards.
  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
  • Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs.
  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
  • Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel
  • Bladder scanning procedure reviewed
  • Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency)
  • Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor
  • Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures
  • Indwelling catheters: care and output measures
  • Nasogastric tubes to suction
  • Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN
  • Competent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN
  • Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN: Indwelling (Foley) catheters
  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
  • Nasogastric tubes
  • Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters
  • Similar devices as appropriate
