About The Position

The West Virginia Department of Health Facilities is establishing a waitlist for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for its State Facility Travel Program. This program aims to provide dedicated direct care staff to state-owned facilities, particularly supporting critical staffing needs. Participants will work under the supervision of a registered nurse, providing care in a psychiatric/forensic state hospital setting. The program offers competitive hourly rates, with CNAs earning $35/hour and PCTs earning $30/hour, plus a potential $5 geographic pay differential for William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital. While travel may be required, this posting is for a waitlist, and openings are expected soon. Applicants must pass a criminal background check, urinalysis, and breath-analysis drug screening.

Requirements

  • Patient Care Technicians must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. A higher education degree may substitute.
  • Certified Nursing Assistants must be certified or registered as a Nursing Assistant or Nurse Aide in the State of West Virginia.
  • Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a criminal background check, a urinalysis, and a breath-analysis drug screening test.

Nice To Haves

  • If you do not hold a CNA certification, you will be compensated at the PCT rate of $30/hour. If you are an active, registered CNA, you will receive the $35/hour rate.

Responsibilities

  • Assume daily responsibility and accountability for the physical care of assigned residents.
  • Perform basic technical skills, adhering to the Nursing Department’s policies and procedures.
  • Work efficiently and cooperatively with residents/patients, families, nursing personnel, and other facility departments.
  • Effectively communicate treatment information, nursing actions, resident needs, and observations to the appropriate persons, and document this information in line with Nursing Department policies.
  • Support Nursing Services and ensure compliance with all rules and regulations.
