About The Position

This position is part of a Care Pair Model, which pairs a nurse with a CNA to provide better care for patients and greater job satisfaction for colleagues. This model involves an RN and CNA collaborating to care for 5-6 patients as a team. The two-way communication within this pair leads to increased staff and patient satisfaction. The lower patient ratios for CNAs allow them more time to provide for activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, ambulation, etc.), reducing the rushed feeling often experienced with higher patient loads. This coordinated approach, starting with report and two-way communication, allows the RN to rely on the CNA for tasks like turns, bathing, and feeding, reducing stress and enabling the RN to focus on assessments and carrying out orders. This model has also shown improvements in quality data, such as CHG bathing, and a decrease in the number and duration of call light activations. The Med-Surg Orthopaedic Unit cares for patients with orthopaedic conditions, as well as those undergoing oral-maxillofacial surgery, plastics, general surgery, surgical oncology, spinal surgery, and others. The unit utilizes a care-delivery model that pairs nurses and nursing assistants to care for an assigned group of patients. The unit's culture emphasizes support, teamwork, and positivity. Nurses collaborate closely with physical therapists to manage patient pain throughout their stay. The unit also has telemetry capabilities, offering opportunities for skill development.
Requirements
- Minimum of 16 years of age required (for CNA).
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the state of Nebraska required (for CNA).
- Demonstrated effective communication skills required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
- Minimum of 18 years of age required (for NA).
- High school education or equivalent required (for NA).
- Six months experience in patient care required or must be enrolled in nursing program (for NA).
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of computer data entry and word processing preferred.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Direct patient care experience preferred (for NA).
Responsibilities
- Perform delegated patient activities as assigned by licensed nursing personnel for the achievement of patient's plan of care.
