About The Position

This position is for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the Medical Surgical (Med 2) unit, working a day shift with a schedule of 32 hours per week, including weekend and holiday rotation. The role involves managing and reporting collection devices, answering call lights, documenting care, maintaining a clean work environment, managing supplies, and potentially floating to various units. The CNA will also participate in performance improvement activities and assist with training new partners. Specific duties include Blood Glucose Monitoring, bladder scanning, attaching patients to telemetry, caring for ostomy/fecal management systems, indwelling catheters, nasogastric tubes to suction, surgical drains under RN direction, completing vital signs, and discontinuing invasive devices like indwelling catheters and nasogastric tubes. The CNA will provide patient care as assigned according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies.

Requirements

  • Completion of a CNA program.
  • Current CNA certificate in applicable state.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Documents care provided according to standards.
  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
  • Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs.
  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
  • Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel
  • Bladder scanning procedure reviewed
  • Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency)
  • Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor
  • Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures
  • Indwelling catheters: care and output measures
  • Nasogastric tubes to suction
  • Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN
  • Competent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN
  • Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN: Indwelling (Foley) catheters
  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
