About The Position

Assists patients with healthcare needs who are ill or recovering from surgery or disease. This position is a Teamsters position, so union dues/membership is mandatory. The primary floor will be 3rd, but they will float to 5M as necessary, and occasionally to the ED as a sitter. Intermountain Health is an equal opportunity employer. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Current Montana C.N.A. certification required upon hire
  • BLS required within 60 days of hire
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Carries out care as delegated by the RN.
  • Receives report from RN daily by 0830 or 2030 to coordinate plan of care related to ADL's.
  • Documents all ADL's for each patient every shift.
  • Answers lights, or intercom system to determine patients' needs.
  • Serves and collects food trays and feeds patients requiring help.
  • Transports patients or assists patients to walk.
  • Runs errands, and direct visitors.
  • Participates in admission/discharge activities.
  • Accurately documents the care provided to patient during shift.
  • Adheres to infection prevention strategies.
  • Stock rooms with supplies.
  • Stock isolation racks with supplies.
  • Responsible to perform purposeful rounding.
  • Updates "care boards" to include name, plan related to ADL/s, date.
