About The Position

Mobile Health Team Inc. is seeking an experienced Certified Nursing Assistant - LTC for a 13-week travel assignment in Wrangell, AK. This role involves providing basic nursing care to non-acute and/or acutely ill residents while maintaining a safe and clean environment. The position requires the ability to react calmly, make sound judgments, and handle lifting of non-ambulatory residents. A caring attitude is essential when dealing with patients/residents and their families. The job pace is rapid with constant pressure to complete assignments and respond to call lights. The CNA must maintain accountability for all actions, accept delegation from a supervising Licensed Nurse (LN), and comply with the Indian Child Protection Act.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year prior experience as a CNA preferred
  • Current full, unrestricted CNA license in the state of Alaska is required
  • Must take and pass courses as specific to unit needs (i.e. POC/waived testing, etc.)
  • BLS/BCLS & ACLS are preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education and training programs
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication, professionalism, and reliability
  • Drug screen and background check (facility required)
  • Additional facility onboarding forms as assigned
  • Flu vaccine REQUIRED
  • Applicant must have current Alaska license
  • Must live at least 50+ miles away from the facility address

Responsibilities

  • Obtains nursing data through interviewing and observing residents under a LN’s direction and review.
  • Documents observation findings consistent with other providers.
  • Provides general nursing care for the adult and geriatric population, including bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing patients, applying anti-embolism stockings or SCD’s.
  • Monitors and records vital signs, weight, height, blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse oximetry, and intake-output measurements.
  • Collects and transports specimens to correct departments.
  • Reports abnormal findings to the LN and records findings as appropriate.
  • Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients/residents and unusual incidents.
  • Provides bedside care, including positioning residents, lifting and turning residents, assisting with bedpans, urinals, or commodes.
  • Answers call lights and makes rounds to assigned residents.
  • Ambulates residents and transports them to and from various departments as required.
  • Assists residents with meals or feeds residents.
  • Aids in handling and care of residents’ belongings.
  • Changes bed linen and cleans overbed table and bedside stand.
  • Assists LN with readying a resident for transport, which may include making phone calls, copying papers and charts, and providing direct resident care.
  • Provides 1:1 care/sitting for residents when indicated for patient/resident safety.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment by preparing nursing areas and resident rooms for admissions, transfers, emergencies, or discharges.
  • Assists in cleaning utility rooms, equipment, and preparing for disinfection or sterilization.
  • Reports equipment that is out of order and other problems to the nurse manager or charge nurse.
  • Handles clean and dirty linen appropriately and stores supplies.
  • Performs supply duties daily, distributing and ordering supplies to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Disposes of all solid waste and infectious waste according to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Replenishes supplies in resident rooms and bathrooms as needed.
  • Obtains 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECGs) for Critical Access Hospital.
  • Trains and performs the mechanics of Telemetry monitoring of patients within the inpatient unit.
  • Becomes a Point of Care Trainer within 3 months of obtaining CNA II.
  • Cross trains to additional areas of the hospital (Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, and Surgical Department) for fluidity of staffing.
  • Cross trains to the Senior Office Specialist (SOS)/Ward Clerk positions.
  • Initiates and participates in a Performance/Process Improvement project within the unit.
  • Serves as preceptor for incoming CNA staff and CNA students.
