About The Position

The Goodwin University Magnet School System in East Hartford is actively searching for a Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor/Teacher to join our dynamic team of educators for the 26-27 school year. An ideal candidate is someone who has an ability to motivate students from diverse backgrounds and interests. The Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor/Teacher is a part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department. The Medical Careers Pathway is a series of prescribed courses for grades 10-12 that provides a strong foundation in the health sciences. Participation in these courses prepares students for a variety of careers in healthcare and students may be eligible to obtain certifications and internships in many of the areas of allied health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • certification in appropriate area of instruction
  • Current licensed registered nurse
  • Work experience in meeting the needs of racially, ethnically, socioeconomically and linguistically diverse groups of youth is desirable.
  • CSDE Certification Health Occupations: 103 or Practical Nurse Education Instruction: 108

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree preferred
  • experience working in a long-term care facility preferred, however, other health occupations will also be considered (i.e. licensed practical nurses, nursing home administrators, gerontologists, psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, therapeutic recreation specialists, speech/language/hearing therapists, sanitarians, fire safety experts, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Provide formal instruction and leadership in phlebotomy as assigned utilizing appropriate curriculum, equipment, and materials.
  • Work with STEM Career & Technology Education Coordinator to determine appropriate curriculum, equipment, and materials utilizing either third party resources [e.g. consortium-based curriculum providers, commercial vendors, etc.] or by developing original coursework if necessary and as required.
  • Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific phlebotomy course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints.
  • Prepare phlebotomy course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Work with STEM Career & Technology Education Coordinator to establish and maintain clinical settings for the phlebotomy scholars.
  • Prepare and coordinate students for the phlebotomy certificate exams.
  • Participate in marketing and recruiting activities and provide supporting materials as required for the development of advertising promotions such as brochures, media spots, web pages, posters, etc.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with area medical facilities for the purpose of promoting programs through donations, employee referral, job shadowing, clinicals, advisory panel participation, and hiring of program graduates.
  • Assist in student job placement and follow-up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the STEM Career & Technology Education Coordinator
