Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program
  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience preferably in PEDS or a long term care facility
  • Strong desire to work with Medically Fragile children
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • The individual should relate to children/adolescents and indicate an interest in working with the physically impaired.
  • Valid Certified Nursing Assistant License in the State of Florida
  • CPR and First Aid Course
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the president’s health and well-being in conjunction with their individual care plan goals.
  • Adheres to schedule and performs bathing, feeding, dressing, and hygiene of residents while encouraging patient participation in self-care skills.
  • Takes temperatures and vital signs and notifies nurse of any abnormal ranges in a timely manner.
  • Properly documents resident’s performance in required programs and obtained information on Flow Sheet.
  • Reposition residents throughout shift with frequent rounds at least every 2 hours.
  • Demonstrates compliance with Physical Management Plan of all Residents Positioning Program - positions residents properly in wheelchair and in bed

  • Ensures residents are ready for school, that they are neat and clean, assist residents onto the school bus, appropriately dressed for the weather and properly strapped in his/her chair.
  • Assist residents off bus noting their overall condition (documenting resident’s condition as needed).
  • Follows direction of RCM, DON or nurse in emergencies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for all residents.
  • Maintains facility in neat and orderly condition, completing housekeeping duties as assigned
  • Complete laundry on each shift in the absences of the Laundress as assigned
  • Follows infection control policies and procedures.
  • Engages in proper interdisciplinary communication with: Therapy Department - report any missing/broken wheelchair parts and/or orthotics, Respiratory Department, Psychology, DON/RCM
  • Attend ongoing in-services, training, and in house educational programs.
  • Utilize learned knowledge towards resident care and leisure
  • Assist residents in meeting their educational, therapy, and respiratory goals by learning his/her individual care plan and implementing applicable activities.
  • Responsible for the implementation of one on one activities per the resident’s individual care plan such as organizing and participating in games, reading to children, teaching residents songs, assist with hand-over-hand activities such as painting and drawing.
  • Document the resident’s response during activities.
  • Actively participates in and engage residents during recreational therapy (individual and group recreational therapy and community outings).
  • Assist residents with homework as needed.
  • Assist the Recreational Therapy Department with the implementation of special events (parties, birthday, BBQ's, holidays, etc.).
  • Attend Care Planning meetings on a quarterly basis.
  • Provide supervision and redirection to residents in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ensure that any specific additional needs of the residents are being met – medical, physical, emotional or spiritual.
  • Provides for safety and wellbeing of all residents and co-workers.
