About The Position

Bristol Hospice is seeking compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with a heart for patients and families to join their team. The CNA plays a vital role as a member of the Interdisciplinary Group Team, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide personal care and promote patient comfort. Requirements

• Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in good standing (additional requirements for California residents: current Home Health Aide (HHA) certification in good standing).
• Must have completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
• Licensed driver with an insured automobile in good working order, meeting organization/state requirements.
• Willingness to submit to a criminal background check prior to hire and annually thereafter.
• Current CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

• One (1) year of experience in community health, hospice, or medical/surgical environments.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• Understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort with providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
• Ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision.
• Tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
• Effective communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Understanding of plan of care documentation.
• Flexibility in work hours to ensure patient care as per the plan of care.
• Ability to empathize with the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and impaired.
• Comfortable addressing issues of death/dying.
• Calm demeanor when entering the patient's home.

Responsibilities

• Perform personal care needs as assigned and respond promptly to patient requests, reporting any inability to perform a task to the Case Manager.
• Provide positive communication, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Ensure patient safety by using equipment properly and safely.
• Assist patients with personal care, including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, and changing linens.
• Help patients dress and undress as assigned.
• Assist with meal preparation, including shopping, and feeding patients as assigned.
• Record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) as ordered and with demonstrated competency.
• Provide skin care to prevent breakdown over bony prominences.
• Report patient condition and significant changes to the Case Manager, and be aware of interpersonal issues with caregivers or other household members.
• Assist with ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
• Provide range of motion exercises and assist with transfers/positioning as directed.
• Assist with self-administered medications (e.g., reminders) as permitted by state regulations.
• Offer and assist with bedpan and urinal use as assigned.
• Assist with light laundry needs if necessary.
• Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered and with demonstrated competency.
• Provide respite for patient's family/caregiver when on-site.
• Maintain a clean and orderly patient living area.
• Adhere to organizational documentation, care procedures, and standards of conduct.
• Participate in quality assessment performance improvement activities.
• Respect the patient's and family/caregiver's environment and personal needs.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
