Riverside Smithfield Hospital, located at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, Virginia, is a new 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility offering comprehensive medical services. The hospital provides an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. This role works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director, providing personal care to hospital patients and maintaining their environment, including those needing special precautions. The position requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care and promotes a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required) or CPR/BLS Instructor - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)

  • 1 year Prior experience in acute health care setting

Responsibilities

  • Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of hospital patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified treatments.
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection.
  • Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN/LPN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements such as enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile sites, strain urine for stones, specimen collection, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow the plan of care that assures patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support for the patient’s value system.
  • Provides care consistent with both verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Demonstrates competent understanding of assigned plans of care within appropriate scope of practice and responsibilities as directed by the RN/LPN to include accurately completing all required documentation.
  • Participates positively in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed.
