This position is for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, PA, working the 14:45p - 23:15p shift. The role involves performing non-professional nursing work in the care of patients/residents and their quarters, providing direct daily care, rehabilitation, and maintenance. The CNA will follow instructions from registered nurses and physicians, participate in training, and assist patients/residents in prescribed activities. Works under close supervision, with increasing independence as experience grows.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of experience as an Aide Trainee; or one year of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients/residents
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Registered and certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as having met competency requirements for performing nurse aide work (for Long-Term Care Unit positions)
  • Basic computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products
  • Lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Bending and stretching

Responsibilities

  • Performs non-professional nursing work in the care of patients/residents and their quarters in hospitals, infirmaries, long-term care units, or domiciliary care units.
  • Provides non-professional nursing services in direct and daily care, rehabilitation, and maintenance of patients/residents and their quarters.
  • Follows established rules and regulations and specific instructions from registered nurses and/or physicians.
  • Participates in on-the-job, in-service, and formal training to maintain nursing care expertise.
  • Assists and encourages patients/residents to take part in prescribed rehabilitative and recreational activities, both individually and in groups.
  • Works under close supervision of a licensed professional supervisor who reviews work through reports, inspections, and observation.
  • Performs routine duties independently as experience increases.
