About The Position

Bristol Hospice is seeking compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with a heart for patients and families. As a member of the Interdisciplinary Group Team, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide personal care and promote patient comfort. Bristol Hospice is a nationwide leader dedicated to providing family-centered hospice services with the highest level of compassion, respect, and dignity.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Utah.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
  • Licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with organization/state requirements and is in good working order.
  • Willingness to submit to a criminal background check prior to hire and annually thereafter.
  • Current CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience in community health/hospice or medical/surgical environments.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • An understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
  • Ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision.
  • Successfully demonstrate tact, patience and good personal hygiene.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Understanding of plan of care documentation.
  • Flexible in work hours to ensure patients receive care as provided in the plan of care.
  • Ability to empathize with the needs of the ill, injured, frail and impaired.
  • Comfortable addressing issues of death/dying.
  • Calm demeanor when entering the patient's home.

Responsibilities

  • Perform personal care needs and attend to patient requests promptly, reporting any inability to perform tasks to the Case Manager.
  • Utilize positive communication techniques, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Ensure patient safety by using equipment properly and safely.
  • Provide personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens.
  • Assist patients with dressing and undressing.
  • Prepare nutritious meals, including shopping, and assist with feeding patients.
  • Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) as ordered.
  • Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown.
  • Assess and report on patient condition and significant changes to the Case Manager, being aware of the living environment and interpersonal issues.
  • Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
  • Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed.
  • Assist with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations (e.g., reminders).
  • Offer and assist with bedpan and urinal aid.
  • Aid with light laundry needs if necessary.
  • Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered.
  • Provide respite for patient's family/caregiver when on-site.
  • Maintain patient's living area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of conduct.
  • Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
  • Respect patient and family/caregiver environment and personal needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
