About The Position

This position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Michael J Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home is a flexible, part-time position. The facility serves South Dakota Veterans and their families through quality health care in a community of trust, dignity, and sharing. It is a long-term care facility with 70 private nursing care units and 23 units for independent living. The role involves caring for America's Heroes while maintaining work-life balance. A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is an important and valuable member of the team, assisting with day-to-day resident care and engaging residents in various household activities and events. This role performs basic resident care, assists with day-to-day resident and household activities, and supports licensed health care personnel in providing routine medical care in a household-type environment.

Requirements

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a South Dakota Certified Nurse Aide certification within four months of hire date.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Knowledge of basic human hygiene requirements.
  • Knowledge of resident safety procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of procedures for documenting resident care.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operation and software use.
  • Knowledge of protective health measures.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to count accurately and record numerical and alphabetical data.
  • Ability to compare information and recognize discrepancies.
  • Ability to observe, recognize, and report abnormal physical symptoms.
  • Ability to assist residents with personal care and hygiene needs.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with others.
  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and apply instructions.
  • Ability to use a computer and applicable data entry programs.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must undergo a background investigation.
  • Must undergo an abuse and neglect screening.
  • Must complete a drug screening.
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9.
  • Must complete employment eligibility verification using E-Verify upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic resident care.
  • Assists with day-to-day resident and household activities.
  • Assists licensed health care personnel in the provision of routine medical care.
  • Engages residents in various household activities/events.

Benefits

  • $1.00 per hour shift pay for pm shift
  • $1.50 per hour weekend pay
