About The Position

Bristol Hospice is seeking compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) with a passion for patient and family care. As a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide personal care and promote patient comfort. Requirements

• Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in good standing (additional requirements for California residents).
• For California residents: Must have a current Home Health Aide (HHA) certification in good standing in the State of California.
• Must have completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
• Licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with organization/state requirements and is in good working order.
• Willingness to submit to a criminal background check prior to hire and annually thereafter.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• Ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision.
• Successfully demonstrate tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Flexible in work hours to ensure patients receive care as provided in the plan of care.
• Ability to empathize with the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and impaired.
• Comfortable addressing issues of death/dying.
• Calm demeanor when entering the patient's home.

Nice To Haves

• One (1) year of experience in community health/hospice or medical/surgical environments.
• An understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
• Understanding of plan of care documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform personal care needs and attend to patient requests promptly, reporting any inability to perform tasks to the Case Manager.
• Provide positive communication to patients and families, maintaining ethical standards, respect, and confidentiality.
• Ensure patient safety by using equipment safely and properly.
• Assist with patient's personal care needs including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens.
• Assist patients with dressing and undressing.
• Assist with meal preparation, including shopping, and feeding patients.
• Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) as ordered and with demonstrated skills competency.
• Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown.
• Assess and report on patient's condition and significant changes to the Case Manager, being aware of interpersonal dynamics within the household.
• Assist with ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
• Provide normal range of motion and assist with transfers/positioning as directed.
• Assist with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations (e.g., reminders).
• Offer and assist with bedpan and urinal use.
• Aid with light laundry needs if necessary.
• Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as an extension of therapy services, as ordered with demonstrated skills competency.
• Provide respite for patient's family/caregiver when on-site.
• Maintain patient's living area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures, and standards of personal and professional conduct.
• Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
• Respect patient and family/caregiver environment and personal needs.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
