About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care to Veterans in an inpatient and long-term care setting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, monitoring patient conditions, documenting care, and supporting a safe, high-quality healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
  • Minimum one (1) year of CNA experience within the last three (3) years.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or equivalent).
  • U.S. citizen or authorized to work as required by the VA.
  • Ability to successfully complete VA credentialing, background investigation, fingerprinting, orientation, and required training before providing patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding, and linen changes.
  • Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, lifting, repositioning, and mobility.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, oxygen saturation, and specimen collection as directed.
  • Observe patients, report changes in physical or mental condition, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Accurately document care provided in accordance with VA policies and electronic medical record requirements.
  • Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Perform other patient care duties as assigned within the CNA scope of practice.
