About The Position

Performs as a Nursing Assistant within the care management team under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Performs delegated nursing tasks for which competence is demonstrated through the Nursing Assistant skills checklist. The HOT (Hematology, Oncology, and Transplant) Unit is a 24-bed unit where team members care for children with cancer or blood disorders and children undergoing bone marrow transplantation. Patients stay for an average range of 3-45 days.

Requirements

  • Currently registered with the State of Wisconsin Registry for Nursing Assistants to be eligible for employment in the basic provider settings.
  • Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
  • High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required.
  • Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children’s values and support our mission and vision.
  • Possesses and competently demonstrates core Nursing Assistant skills as outlined in the skill competency checklist and understands the role of performing delegated tasks.
  • Possesses a willingness and the initiative to successfully complete educational requirements while developing and learning new skills as required by the unit.
  • Possesses effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families and members of the health care team.
  • Possesses rudimentary assessment and analytical skills in order to perform basic patient observations.
