About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists professional and technical nursing personnel by performing a variety of duties and procedures directly related to patient care. This role involves accurately measuring and recording patient weights and vital signs, recognizing and reporting changes in patient conditions, and documenting all activities. CNAs are responsible for assisting patients with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, comfort measures, and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL), always maintaining patient privacy and respect. They also ensure a clean and safe unit environment, adhere to Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance, and assist with patient care activities as directed by a licensed nurse, including specimen collection/transport, turning & positioning, and patient transportation. The position requires active engagement in caring behaviors, conscious ownership of work, and proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions, demonstrating appropriate use of independent judgment and decision-making.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Demonstrated prior patient care experience
  • Certification as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) in the state of CA
  • AHA Basic Life Support
  • Understanding of basic medical terminology
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)

Responsibilities

  • Take and record vital signs.
  • Assist patients with hygiene and elimination.
  • Ensure the safety of the patient.
  • Maintain a clean and safe unit environment.
  • Assist with stocking unit supplies.
  • Operate hospital equipment as directed.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks.
  • Assist with other related duties as assigned.
  • Accurately measure and record patient weights and vital signs.
  • Recognize and report changes in the patient's condition, take appropriate action, and accurately document all activities as required.
  • Receive and accurately inventory and secure patient belongings as appropriate.
  • Assist patient with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, comfort measures and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL), in consideration of patient age, gender, culture and stated preferences, maintaining patient privacy and respect at all times.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining a clean & safe environment.
  • Ensure Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance.
  • Assist with patient care activities as directed by licensed nurse, including specimen collection/transport, turning & positioning, and patient transportation.
  • Actively engage in caring behaviors, taking conscious ownership for work and taking proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful actions regarding work activities.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making.
