About The Position

SUNY Sullivan is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Instructor to teach the NYS-approved CNA curriculum. This comprehensive program requires 130 hours of instruction, lab, and clinical hours combined, meeting three to four days a week during either daytime (9 AM-1 PM) or evening (5 PM-9 PM) sessions. The instructional and lab components will be conducted on campus or at an approved off-campus site, while the clinical portion will take place at an approved site within Sullivan County. The course is designed to prepare students for basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, making them eligible to take the state exam for CNA certification. This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing programs.

Requirements

  • Current New York State Professional Nurse Registration
  • Two years of experience caring for the elderly and/or chronically ill
  • Certification to teach Nurse Aide or Practical Nursing OR two years of experience teaching nurse aides in a residential health care facility OR three years of experience teaching nursing or nursing-related programs to adults in an academic setting approved by the Commissioner of Education OR completion of the State-approved "Train the Trainer" program

Responsibilities

  • Teach the CNA curriculum as approved by NYSED.
  • Teach the classroom, lab, and clinical components of the program.
  • Provide instruction, assessment, and mentoring to students.
  • Prepare students to take the NYSED exam.
  • Provide remediation to students if needed before and after the exam if students need to retake the certification exam.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Nursing Programs.
