About The Position

The Emergency Department Nursing Assistant assists with the direct care of emergency department patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse and performs other essential non-direct patient duties. The Nursing Assistant assists the nurse with vital signs and weights, collects specimens, performs CPR and assists the nursing staff as delegated. The Nursing Assistant additionally transports patients via wheelchair or gurney and provides safety and comfort for patients and their families. The Nursing Assistant uses effective verbal and written skills to communicate with people on all levels, and is able to maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and physicians. The Nursing Assistant additionally may, under the supervision of an RN, serve as a patient sitter, maintaining constant direct observation and visualization of identified patient(s). The Nursing Assistant will follow the criteria and standards established for acting as a sitter. Greets patients and visitors in person or on the telephone, obtains demographic and medical information for registration and identification. Fosters a supportive environment and promotes customer service by assisting with JFK's goals in obtaining 100 percent satisfaction rates among our most important constituents.

Requirements

  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (maintained at all times).
  • Certified Nursing Assistance Certificate or Equivalent at Time of Hire.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
