About The Position

Jefferson Health is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife to provide comprehensive inpatient clinical care to OB/GYN patients. This role involves outpatient gynecologic and obstetric care in collaboration with EMCM Ob/Gyn physicians, and inpatient obstetrical coverage including initial evaluation, care, and delivery of normally laboring patients under physician guidance. The position requires serving adolescent and adult age populations, demonstrating an understanding of their functional and developmental age.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from accredited Midwifery Program
  • AMCB Board Certification
  • BLS certification
  • RN License

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive inpatient clinical care to OB/GYN patients consistent with existing practice protocols, organizational standards, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing outpatient gynecologic and obstetric care in a collaborative practice with EMCM Ob/Gyn physicians.
  • Providing inpatient obstetrical coverage that involves initial evaluation of parturient and continued care and delivery of normally laboring patients under the guidance of the labor floor staff physician.
  • Performing complete history & physicals and documenting in the medical record.
  • Ordering and collecting data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Serving as the first responder for both nursing and house staff in the event of patient status changes, orders, and in situations requiring procedural and resuscitative interventions.
  • Assessing for risks associated with the care of the acute and complex chronically ill patient including: medication side effects, immobility, impaired nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence, invasive interventions and diagnostic procedures.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses of acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Managing diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulating differential diagnoses by priority.
  • Diagnosing complications and ordering appropriate interventions.
  • Identifying expected outcomes from diagnosis, and formulating and documenting a plan of care to address complex acute and chronic health care needs.
  • Utilizing evidenced based practice guidelines and protocols in an individualized, dynamic plan of care that can be applied across the continuum.
  • Implementing and modifying plan of care.
  • Prescribing diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions.
  • Performing advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.
  • Documenting/dictating key components of patient's progress via daily progress note, transfer, and discharge summary, and or clinic note where applicable.
  • Maintaining ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Facilitating and communicating with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the inpatient and outpatient continuum of care.
  • Demonstrating Professional Practice behaviors including: preceptor/mentoring, education and instruction of graduate students.
  • Seeking opportunities for active engagement in research and the analysis of evidenced based practice.
  • Actively participating in Advance Practice Grand Rounds and specialty specific meetings.
  • Maintaining CEUs, and membership in a professional organization.
