About The Position

The Midwife is responsible for all aspects of OB care for patients of the Women's Health Center.  The Midwife is responsible for shift coverage in Meritus Medical Center Birthing Center, managing the laboring patients, including unattached patients presenting through the ED.   The Midwife is also responsible for Gynecological Care, providing care related to both acute and chronic conditions, making appropriate referrals, providing patient education and ensuring patients are treated with concern and respect.

Requirements

  • Education - Graduate of an accredited midwifery program.  Such program must be approved by American College of Nurse-Midwives.
  • Licensure/Certification - Currently licensed to practice in Maryland or be able to obtain a Maryland license.  BLS (CPR) in compliance with policy.  Application must be made for medical staff membership and clinical privileges at Meritus Health.  Midwife shall at all times be a member in good standing of the Medical Staff of the Medical Center.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Knowledge of current OB/GYN practice benchmarks and protocals.  Able to independently perform all OB/GYN care within scope of license.  Ability to communicate well with patients, peers and subordinates.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience - Previous experience as a certified midwife preferred. New graduates considered.
