About The Position

This role involves direct patient care and hands-on patient care. The Certified Nurse Midwife will manage the care of healthy childbearing women through their prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum experience, including newborn assessment and lactation support. They will also care for high-risk women within their scope of practice, provide gynecological care and family planning assistance, and may act as a surgical assistant for c-sections and GYN procedures. The position requires obtaining histories, performing medical exams, conducting health screenings, diagnosing and treating common health problems, prescribing medications, and performing routine diagnostic procedures. Maintaining clinical records, facilitating referrals, recognizing and managing medical emergencies, and participating in quality improvement activities are also key responsibilities. The role requires compliance with licensure, participation in performance reviews, and support of the organization's mission and values. Continuous learning of statutes regulating nurse-midwifery practice and expanding clinical practice as needed, including additional OB/GYN duties, marketing, public relations, and consumer education, are expected. Open communication with hospital staff and participation in hospital committees and program development are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Masters Prepared Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Graduate of an ACNM accredited school of Nurse midwifery
  • Basic CPR Certification
  • NRP Certification
  • Current or Pending Certification from ACNM
  • Advanced Nurse Prescriber with DEA member
  • Demonstrates performance of at least 2 deliveries in the last 24 months.
  • Currently licensed in the State of Wisconsin to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse midwife.
  • Ability to fulfill the credentialing criteria and the scope of practice the hospital site for intrapartum care. (St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center; Vincent Hospital)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to represent Prevea appropriately in the spoken and written word.

Responsibilities

  • Follows guidelines as determined by the nurse-midwife service collaborating physician, and the OB/GYN Department.
  • Overall management of the care of healthy childbearing women through their prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum experience, including newborn assessment at delivery and lactation support.
  • Cares for high-risk women within scope of practice.
  • Functions within their scope of practice, as determined by law and hospital privileges.
  • Provides gynecological care and family planning assistance to women.
  • May act as surgical assistant at c-section and GYN procedures.
  • Provides primary care to women, which includes the following: Obtains histories and perform appropriate medical exams; conduct health screening procedures; diagnose, treat, and monitor common and acute health care problems; and provide health education.
  • Prescribes medications and therapies appropriate to their scope of practice.
  • Performs and assists in routine diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice.
  • Maintains appropriate and complete clinical records, fostering communication between health care providers, continuity of care, and coordination of services.
  • Facilitates referrals to community health facilities, agencies and resources.
  • Recognizes medical emergencies and initiates evaluative and treatment procedures necessary in urgent situations, and consults the collaborating or on-call physician.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities of the OB/GYN Department, including staff development.
  • Complies with and keeps current regarding licensure.
  • Participates in the annual performance review process as defined by Prevea.
  • Supports the Prevea organization mission statement, values and goals of service by demonstrating concern for quality, efficiency and effectiveness of operations, services, activities and personnel.
  • Maintains knowledge of current statutes regulating nurse-midwifery practice and provide services within the limitations as established by state licensure boards, local and federal regulations.
  • The CNM expands her clinical practice as needed. She undertakes additional OB/GYN job-related duties as requested. Such as marketing, public relations, consumer education.
  • Maintains open and appropriate communication with hospital staff.
  • Participates in appropriate hospital committees, and staff and program development.
