About The Position

The Center for Women’s Health & Wellness at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham, offers a new model for women’s healthcare on the Seacoast. This position is for a full-time, 40-hour Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to join the Women's Health team. This unique role will provide a blend of inpatient and outpatient midwifery services, as well as women's behavioral health care. The position consists of 36 hours of direct patient care and 4 hours of administrative time per week. The CNM will divide their clinical responsibilities between inpatient services at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, outpatient OB/GYN care, and women's behavioral health services. Inpatient responsibilities will be based on the main hospital campus and include coverage of the antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum units. Outpatient midwifery services will be provided at OB/GYN clinics located in Dover, NH, and Portsmouth, NH. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Women's behavioral health services will include a combination of in-person and virtual patient visits. Weekend coverage averages one to two (1–2) 12-hour hospital shifts per month and may include Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday coverage. Holiday responsibilities are shared equitably among providers and rotated evenly from year to year.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nursing required.
  • Midwife, Certified Nurse [State License] required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Nurse Midwife is required to be a Midwife II.
  • 2-3 years required.
  • Demonstrated recent obstetrical experience, including a minimum of 20 vaginal births within the past 12 months.

Nice To Haves

  • PMHNP certification strongly preferred.
  • Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring through the National Certification Corporation (NCC), or willingness to obtain certification within one year of hire.
  • Experience first-assisting in Cesarean deliveries preferred; candidates without this experience will be expected to complete additional training upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safe and personalized care to patients in the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and routine GYN settings.
  • Provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and/or newborn care to patients.
  • Monitor fetal development by listening to fetal heartbeat, taking external uterine measurements, identifying fetal position, or estimating fetal size and weight.
  • Document patients' health histories, symptoms, physical conditions, or other diagnostic information.
  • Provide patients with direct family planning services, such as inserting intrauterine devices, dispensing oral contraceptives, and fitting cervical barriers, including cervical caps or diaphragms.
  • Prescribe medications as permitted by state regulations.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans for health care management.
  • Explain procedures to patients, family members, staff members, or others.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic or laboratory tests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
