About The Position

The Certified Nurse Assistant 2 (CNA 2) at the Miami Comprehensive Treatment Unit (CTU) is a full-time position responsible for providing direct patient care and performing various clerical duties. This role involves observing and reporting patient status, assisting with procedures, implementing patient care plans, and managing unit-related administrative tasks. The CNA 2 will work closely with the Registered Nurse (RN) and other healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care and maintain a safe and efficient unit environment. The position requires adherence to professional accountability standards, including maintaining confidentiality, professional demeanor, and clinical competency.

Requirements

  • High School education required.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing assistant.
  • Current/valid CNA license required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • One year of relevant nursing experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of building relationships with physicians, direct reports and key staff.
  • Moderate to advanced computer literacy and skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years recent experience preferred.
  • Ambulatory or inpatient experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient’s status and needs.
  • Answers call lights and attends to/reports patient needs.
  • Obtains weights, vital signs and reports results.
  • Obtains specimens and transports them.
  • Transfers, moves, and repositions patients.
  • Transports patients.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe manner.
  • Assists with procedures/care in a safe manner.
  • Implements patient care plan established by the RN.
  • Takes action in emergency/rapidly changing situations and takes basic life sustaining or other appropriate steps to temporarily manage the situation.
  • Alerts appropriate RN team members as emergencies arise or when changes in patient status are noted.
  • Gathers equipment needed for emergency patient care situations.
  • Updates patient intake/output.
  • Assists patient with ADLs including cleansing of perineal area and catheter.
  • Assists patient with feeding/meals.
  • Assists patients with elimination needs.
  • Makes occupied/unoccupied and surgical beds.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Assists with post mortem care.
  • Maintains knowledge of patient’s health status, treatment plan and progress.
  • Rounds on patients every two hours for safety issues.
  • Checks rooms on a daily basis, supplying rooms with new admissions kits, making admission paperwork packets as needed.
  • Takes report from off-going shift.
  • Answers patients call lights and telephone calls within a reasonable time.
  • Responsible for clinical and clerical functions of the respective unit.
  • Performs secretarial duties including faxing, copying, mailing, and typing.
  • Answers telephone promptly and courteously.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments and consults.
  • Schedules and prepares patients for labs, diagnostic procedures, OR, and radiation treatment.
  • Retrieves and/or assists clinical personnel in retrieving diagnostic studies.
  • Retrieves and prints schedules for the next day.
  • Enters Daily Lab Sheet, Daily Labs and Lab Orders for the next shift.
  • Enters ADT sheet for all admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Labels all charts appropriately and completely.
  • Ensures all OPD charges are entered in the computer appropriately.
  • Ensures Ambulance log is properly filled out and completed.
  • Assures that Kardex entries are completed, updated and properly placed back in card holder daily.
  • Ensures equipment on Unit is working properly.
  • Orders supplies for stock room.
  • Maintains area stocked with necessary supplies and forms.
  • Checks PA system on a daily basis.
  • Picks up mail daily from the Mailroom.
  • Able to function as a monitor Tech when appropriate.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of all medical, financial, employee, computer and other sensitive materials.
  • Acts as role model and maintains professional demeanor at all times.
  • Maintains clinical competency.
  • Consults internal experts when appropriate.
  • Maintains documentation of continuing education requirements.
  • Maintains CPR provider card.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services.
  • Actively supports and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Seeks/accepts training to learn new skills and maintain current competencies.
  • Maintains professional certifications/licensure in active status.
  • Practices within the guidelines and scope of a certified nursing assistant.
  • Displays courtesy toward customers by introducing self and addressing customer by name.
  • Meets customers’ expectations by listening to them, demonstrating sensitivity and awareness of others.
  • Follows through to ensure that established expectations are satisfied; keeps customers informed of progress.
  • Works effectively and cooperatively in groups/teams to ensure quality patient care.
  • Communicates effectively with manager and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Attempts to resolve patient/physician and visitor complaints and refers unresolved issues to managers.
  • Demonstrates dependability/reliability by promptly reporting to work when scheduled.
  • Serves as mentor and role model.
  • Compliance with UM, Hospital and department policies and procedures.
