About The Position

Lubbock Heart & Surgical Hospital is seeking a dedicated Certified Nurse Aide to join their team. This physician-owned hospital specializes in cardiac, orthopedic, nephrology, urology, and general medical patients, with a focus on surgical procedures. They pride themselves on providing excellent patient care and fostering a family-like atmosphere for patients, families, physicians, and employees. The hospital features a 24-hour Emergency Department, multiple operating rooms, cardiac catheterization labs, day surgery rooms, acute care beds, and cardiac critical care rooms.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
0 – 2 years’ experience as a nurse’s assistant in a healthcare setting
Current BLS
Certified Nursing Assistant certification required

Responsibilities

Report to Charge Nurse for patient instructions.
Obtain Vital Signs as directed and report abnormalities to the primary care nurse and/or Charge Nurse, documenting in the electronic medical record.
Monitor patients' intake/output and document in the electronic medical record.
Clean unit equipment, refrigerators, and unit area as necessary or directed.
Monitor equipment usage and loss.
Monitor refrigerator/freezer temperatures for the unit.
Inventory and remove expired products as directed by the Director.
Set up rooms for admissions, assist in the discharge process, and notify Monitor Tech of telemetry box number for admissions and discharges.
Pass water/ice pitcher to patients who can have water and monitor use.
Check patient diets with the primary care nurse.
Greet patients, gather information, and demonstrate appropriate customer service skills.
Answer call lights and assist with meeting patient needs or deferring to a TPC Nurse.
Assist in obtaining items/supplies for the unit and patient.
Assist patients with eating, dressing, bathing, ambulation, and transportation.
Assist in all daily care of patients and turning total care patients.
Monitor patients for changes in mental alertness, emotions, or physical ability and notify the charge nurse or TPC Nurse of these changes.
Assist with sheath removals once competencies are completed.
Assist with procedural preps as instructed by the TPC Nurse.
Complete other duties as assigned (e.g., stocking med room, carts, and other supply areas).
Assist unit as needed in noninvasive procedures (e.g., foley catheter removal, INT removal, simple dressing changes) under the supervision and direction of a TPC Nurse, Charge nurse, or Director.
Assist in blood glucose monitoring once competencies are completed.
