About The Position

Lubbock Heart & Surgical Hospital is seeking a dedicated Certified Nurse Aide to join their team. This physician-owned hospital specializes in cardiac, orthopedic, nephrology, urology, and general medical patients, with a focus on surgical procedures. They pride themselves on providing excellent patient care and fostering a family-like atmosphere for patients, families, physicians, and employees. The hospital features a 24-hour Emergency Department, multiple operating rooms, cardiac catheterization labs, day surgery rooms, acute care beds, and cardiac critical care rooms.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • 0 – 2 years’ experience as a nurse’s assistant in a healthcare setting
  • Current BLS
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification required

Responsibilities

  • Report to Charge Nurse for patient instructions.
  • Obtain Vital Signs as directed and report abnormalities to the primary care nurse and/or Charge Nurse, documenting in the electronic medical record.
  • Monitor patients' intake/output and document in the electronic medical record.
  • Clean unit equipment, refrigerators, and unit area as necessary or directed.
  • Monitor equipment usage and loss.
  • Monitor refrigerator/freezer temperatures for the unit.
  • Inventory and remove expired products as directed by the Director.
  • Set up rooms for admissions, assist in the discharge process, and notify Monitor Tech of telemetry box number for admissions and discharges.
  • Pass water/ice pitcher to patients who can have water and monitor use.
  • Check patient diets with the primary care nurse.
  • Greet patients, gather information, and demonstrate appropriate customer service skills.
  • Answer call lights and assist with meeting patient needs or deferring to a TPC Nurse.
  • Assist in obtaining items/supplies for the unit and patient.
  • Assist patients with eating, dressing, bathing, ambulation, and transportation.
  • Assist in all daily care of patients and turning total care patients.
  • Monitor patients for changes in mental alertness, emotions, or physical ability and notify the charge nurse or TPC Nurse of these changes.
  • Assist with sheath removals once competencies are completed.
  • Assist with procedural preps as instructed by the TPC Nurse.
  • Complete other duties as assigned (e.g., stocking med room, carts, and other supply areas).
  • Assist unit as needed in noninvasive procedures (e.g., foley catheter removal, INT removal, simple dressing changes) under the supervision and direction of a TPC Nurse, Charge nurse, or Director.
  • Assist in blood glucose monitoring once competencies are completed.
