About The Position

The Certified Medication Technician (CMT) is responsible for the proper administration of medications to residents. This role requires a genuine interest in long-term care and the ability to work effectively with residents, their families, and the broader healthcare team. The CMT plays a crucial role in resident care by ensuring medications are administered safely and by assisting with resident needs as they arise.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current, valid Certified Medication Technician (CMT) certificate.
  • Graduate of a state-approved CNA program.
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional demands of the position, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and working with individuals who may be ill, disabled, or emotionally upset.

Responsibilities

  • Administer a variety of by-mouth medications (excluding Class II) , topical ointments , eye, ear, and nose drops , rectal and vaginal medications , and nebulizer treatments.
  • Administer "as needed" medications after getting approval from the charge nurse.
  • Take and record vital signs before administering specified medications or as requested by the charge nurse.
  • Re-order medications as needed and check all medication bottles for expiration dates and re-ordering needs.
  • Receive, account for, and properly store medications delivered from the pharmacy.
  • Clean the medication cart and bottles daily.
  • Document all administered medications, including refusals and "as needed" doses, on the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
  • Notify the charge nurse immediately if medications are unavailable or if residents are due for medications the CMT cannot administer, such as injections.
  • Answer resident call lights and provide assistance as needed.
  • Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.
  • May also be required to perform all duties of a CNA.
