The Lead Medication Assistant organizes and assigns the resident assistants to ensure that residents’ plans of care are carried out and documented as directed. This role involves providing hands-on care to residents, working with additional resources to plan and deliver care for all residents in their household, and playing a key role in the resident admission process, orientation of new staff and students, and data collection on performance indicators. The position also involves performing tasks delegated by the supervising nurse and other managers, providing assistance with basic healthcare needs including daily living activities, and maintaining the household environment during the scheduled shift. Additionally, the role includes assisting residents with transfers, repositioning, and walking, assisting with meals and snacks, administering prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse, documenting outcomes related to resident care, communicating changing conditions to the charge nurse, assisting with wellness and recreational programs, aiding providers and nursing staff with procedures, collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens, gathering vital signs, and utilizing cost-effective measures while delivering quality care. Participation in departmental/organization committees and task forces may also be required.
