The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as a caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. This role involves delivering age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident per the plan of care. Responsibilities include assisting with basic health care needs such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining vital signs, and providing psycho-social support. The MA may also assist residents with transferring, re-positioning, walking, and providing range of motion exercises. Tasks related to food preparation and dining are also part of the role, aiming to create a positive dining experience. Additionally, the MA administers prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within their scope of practice, documents resident care outcomes, and communicates any changes in condition or concerns to the charge nurse. The role also includes collecting specimens, gathering vital signs, providing housekeeping and laundry services, and assisting with wellness and recreational programs.
