The Lead Medication Assistant organizes and assigns the resident assistants to ensure that residents’ plans of care are carried out and documented as directed. This role involves providing hands-on care to residents, working with additional resources to plan and deliver care for all residents in their household. The Lead Medication Assistant plays a key role in the resident admission process, orientation of new staff and students, and data collection on performance indicators. They perform tasks delegated by the supervising nurse and other managers, and assist with basic healthcare needs including daily living activities, transferring, re-positioning, walking, and providing range of motion and passive exercises. The role also includes assisting residents with meals, administering prescribed medications as delegated, documenting resident care outcomes, and communicating changes in condition to the charge nurse. Additionally, they assist with wellness and recreational programs, collect specimens, and gather vital signs, while utilizing cost-effective measures.
