About The Position

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) at Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will be responsible for preparing, administering, and documenting prescribed medications according to protocol. This role involves direct patient care, including administering medications and treatments, monitoring residents for reactions, recording vital signs, and assisting with daily living activities. The CMA also plays a role in maintaining the cleanliness of the nursing station and medication room.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
  • Good standing in the state registry.
  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of Universal Precautions and the Blood Borne Pathogen rules.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year of previous health care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments per state regulations, company policy, and procedure.
  • Observes and reports resident reactions and side effects to medication to the charge nurse.
  • Takes and records vital signs before administering medications that could affect them.
  • Reports to the charge nurse and documents reasons for not administering prescribed drugs.
  • Prepares and administers regularly prescribed medications after personal setup.
  • Documents administered medications in the resident's medication administration record.
  • Administers oxygen via nasal cannula or non-sealing face mask in emergencies and immediately notifies and documents notification to the licensed nurse.
  • Applies specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medications.
  • Accurately follows all principles of good medication administration.
  • Assists with customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment, including bathing, feeding, dressing, observing food intake, hair and nail care, moving residents, and responding to calls.
  • Helps charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
