The Certified Medication Aide will prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol. Essential Functions include administering prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with company policy and procedure, observing and reporting reactions and side-effects to medication, taking and recording vital signs prior to medication administration, reporting and documenting reasons prescribed drugs are not administered, administering regularly prescribed medication that the permit holder has been trained to administer only after personally preparing the medication, documenting administered medication in the resident's medication administration record, administering oxygen per nasal cannula or a non-sealing face mask only in an emergency and immediately notifying the licensed nurse on duty or on call and documenting the action and notification, applying specifically ordered ophthalmic, OTIC, nasal, and vaginal medication, accurately following all principles of good medication administration, and assisting in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents from area to area, responding to calls, which includes lifting and transferring. The medication aide will also help charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
