The Certified Medication Aide assists licensed nursing staff by administering daily medications as ordered by a physician, in accordance with nursing standards, facility policies and procedures, and state requirements. The role works within a Christian, not-for-profit healthcare community that provides short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, long-term care, assisted living, independent living, and home health services. Medication administration is performed under direct supervision of a licensed nurse unless state law allows otherwise. The position also involves observing residents for adverse reactions or changes in condition, documenting medication administration and resident changes, handling and storing medications safely, and completing related tasks such as taking vital signs and maintaining medication carts. The aide must protect resident safety and confidentiality, follow infection-control procedures, report suspected abuse and workplace exposures, and complete assigned training and competency assessments. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a CNA, hold an unrestricted Ohio Certified Medication Aide certification, and have the specified healthcare or medication aide experience. Current CPR certification and a good understanding of medical and pharmacological terminology are also required.
