About The Position

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) will be responsible for preparing, administering, and documenting prescribed medications according to protocol. This role involves essential functions such as administering medications and treatments as per state regulations and company policy, observing and reporting resident reactions to medications, recording vital signs, and documenting reasons for not administering prescribed drugs. The CMA will also prepare medications for administration, document them accurately, and administer oxygen in emergencies. Additionally, the role includes applying specific ordered medications, following medication administration principles, assisting with daily resident care tasks like bathing, feeding, and dressing, and helping with the cleanliness of the nursing station and medication room.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
  • Good standing in the state registry.
  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of Universal Precautions and the Blood Borne Pathogen rules.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year of previous health care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, administers, and documents prescribed medications per protocol.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with company policy and procedure and state regulations.
  • Observes and reports resident reactions and side effects to medication to the charge nurse.
  • Takes and records vital signs prior to administering medication that could affect them.
  • Reports to charge nurse and documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
  • Administers regularly prescribed medication after personally preparing it.
  • Documents administered medication in the resident's medication administration record.
  • Administers oxygen per nasal cannula or non-sealing face mask in emergencies and documents the action and notification.
  • Applies specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medication.
  • Accurately follows all principles of good medication administration.
  • Assists in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment, including bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents, and responding to calls.
  • Helps charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
