The Certified Medication Aide will prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol. Essential Functions include administering prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with company policy and procedure. The aide will observe and report reactions and side-effects to medication to the facility's charge nurse, take and record vital signs prior to medication administration, and report and document reasons prescribed drugs are not administered. The medication aide will document administered medications in the resident's medication administration record and may administer oxygen in emergencies, immediately notifying and documenting the action with a licensed nurse. The aide will apply specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medication, accurately follow all principles of good medication administration, and assist in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents, and responding to calls. The role also includes helping charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
