The Certified Medication Aide will prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol. Essential Functions include administering prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with company policy and procedure. The role involves observing and reporting resident reactions and side-effects to medication to the charge nurse, taking and recording vital signs before medication administration, and documenting reasons for not administering prescribed drugs. The medication aide is responsible for preparing and administering regularly prescribed medications they are trained to administer, documenting administered medications in the resident's medication administration record, and administering oxygen per nasal cannula or a non-sealing face mask only in an emergency, followed by immediate notification and documentation. The position also includes applying specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medications, accurately following all principles of good medication administration, and assisting with customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents, and responding to calls, which includes lifting and transferring. The medication aide also helps charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
