The Certified Medication Aide will prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol. This role involves administering prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with company policy and procedure. The aide will observe and report resident reactions and side-effects to medication to the charge nurse, and record vital signs prior to administering medications that could affect them. They will document reasons prescribed drugs are not administered and administer regularly prescribed medication only after personally preparing it. The medication aide will document administered medication in the resident's medication administration record. In emergencies, the aide may administer oxygen per nasal cannula or a non-sealing face mask, immediately notifying the licensed nurse and documenting the action. The role also includes applying specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medication, assisting with customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents, responding to calls, and helping charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
