About The Position

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for administering prescribed medications and treatments to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with federal, state, and facility regulations. The CMA supports nursing staff in providing safe, compassionate, and quality resident care while promoting resident dignity, independence, and well-being.

Requirements

Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification in the State of Texas (or applicable state).
Active Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification preferred/required per state regulations.
Current CPR certification preferred.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Knowledge of medication administration procedures.
Understanding of geriatric care principles.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to assist residents with mobility and transfers.
Ability to push medication carts and equipment.
Active CMA certification.
Compliance with state continuing education requirements.
Must pass background check and drug screening per facility policy.

Nice To Haves

Long-term care experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Administer medications accurately according to physician orders and facility policies.
Verify resident identity prior to medication administration.
Follow the Five Rights of Medication Administration.
Document medication administration promptly and accurately in the medical record.
Observe residents for medication effectiveness and adverse reactions.
Report medication errors, refusals, or concerns immediately to the licensed nurse.
Maintain security and control of medications at all times.
Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
Monitor and report changes in resident condition.
Measure and record vital signs as assigned.
Provide respectful, person-centered care to all residents.
Respond promptly to resident call lights and requests.
Complete required charting accurately and timely.
Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, residents, and families.
Participate in shift reports and care conferences as assigned.
Follow all federal, state, and facility regulations.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Adhere to infection control and safety procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and work area.
