About The Position

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for administering prescribed medications and treatments to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with federal, state, and facility regulations. The CMA supports nursing staff in providing safe, compassionate, and quality resident care while promoting resident dignity, independence, and well-being.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification in the State of Texas (or applicable state).
  • Active Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification preferred/required per state regulations.
  • Current CPR certification preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Knowledge of medication administration procedures.
  • Understanding of geriatric care principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist residents with mobility and transfers.
  • Ability to push medication carts and equipment.
  • Active CMA certification.
  • Compliance with state continuing education requirements.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening per facility policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Long-term care experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications accurately according to physician orders and facility policies.
  • Verify resident identity prior to medication administration.
  • Follow the Five Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Document medication administration promptly and accurately in the medical record.
  • Observe residents for medication effectiveness and adverse reactions.
  • Report medication errors, refusals, or concerns immediately to the licensed nurse.
  • Maintain security and control of medications at all times.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
  • Monitor and report changes in resident condition.
  • Measure and record vital signs as assigned.
  • Provide respectful, person-centered care to all residents.
  • Respond promptly to resident call lights and requests.
  • Complete required charting accurately and timely.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, residents, and families.
  • Participate in shift reports and care conferences as assigned.
  • Follow all federal, state, and facility regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and work area.
